Born and raised in Branson, Missouri, I attended the University of Missouri for a B.A. in architectural studies after high school. This degree led me to a small interior design firm in Aspen, Colorado, where I played on the slopes for 4 years…this is where my love affair with yoga began. This devotion has grown deeper through the years as I have become a genuine yoga practitioner and dedicated instructor at My Hot Yoga here in Springfield and Branson.
Fueled by passion, I have fulfilled my heart through asana, meditation, and energetic work. I feel that uniting yoga and the power of energy healing is the ultimate way to expand our awareness and bring the focus within to live in the alignment with the person we are meant to be.
My classes are challenging yet uplifting and approachable as I hope to take you beyond the physical aspects of yoga and bring you into a sacred space of the heart, surrendering to a higher vibration, and enabling My students to practice at their own level of ability.
I began practicing yoga in January of 2012 and quickly found my life’s new passion! Following my wonderful business partner, Alicia Epps, in her practice led me to bigger things in my yoga life. We bought My Hot Yoga in January of 2013 and it has been such an amazing journey, and we are thrilled to have opened our second location in Branson, MO in the Spring of 2014!
I bring a completely different component to this partnership. I grew up in the shadows of my Dad who has been a very successful business man all of his life. He taught me the “business” side of business. I have been in accounting, bookkeeping and management for 18 years, and while I am responsible for all the business side of the studio, my passion for yoga grows every day. Its something about taking 60 or 75 minutes for yourself that I never got to experience in the years prior to! It changed my life in so many different ways physically and mentally, and I am so incredibly excited to see where this journey takes me!
I have practiced Yoga for over 8 years and found Yoga down a long hard journey. Years of teaching aerobics and body building took a toll on my body, so I started walking to stay in shape and was spending a lot of time riding our horses. I noticed that I was losing my flexibility and looked for options to regain it, which is what led me to Yoga. After my first Yoga class I had a personal revelation of the unnecessary stress that I had put my body through for all the years and was amazed of how calm and peaceful I was at the end of class. After doing Iyengar Yoga for years, I decided to work on my Yoga certification for my own personal knowledge. During my studies I became very interested in Bikram (hot) Yoga. I went to my first class and loved it, I was instantly hooked. I had finally found a workout where I could sweat and still be kind to my body. With Hot Yoga you can come to focus on a hard workout, work on your flexibility, weight loss or come to class to unwind and relieve stress from your daily life and leave calmer and ready to face the world. When not in the Yoga room you can usually find us busy with the horses, horse shows, camping, canoeing or on the dirt bikes enjoying the outdoors.
I was in yoga the other day. I was in full lotus position. My chakras were all aligned. My mind is cleared of all clatter and I’m looking out of my third eye and everything that I’m supposed to be doing. It’s amazing what comes up, when you sit in that silence. “Mama keeps whites bright like the sunlight, Mama’s got the magic of Clorox 2.” -Ellen DeGeneres
Ellen’s quote perfectly describes my yoga practice! It’s funny and true how the craziest things will enter the mind during yoga practice. I didn’t know much about yoga when I first found an interest in it. All I knew was that Dixie Carter did yoga and she could twist into some crazy shapes. I figured that if Julia Sugarbaker could do yoga, so could I! My first class was back in 2003 with a group of coworkers. It was an enjoyable experience so I came back the following week.
The foundation of my practice is based in Iyengar yoga. I’ve always enjoyed the variety of poses practiced in an Iyengar class as well as the attention to detail given to each student. In 2009, my practice evolved to include hot yoga. Through hot yoga, I found a consistent, daily practice and really experienced the true benefits available through a strong practice.
When My Hot Yoga opened their doors in 2011, I found a great marriage between my love of Iyengar yoga and my passion for hot yoga. When you attend one of my classes, you can expect to have a fun and challenging class. I try to mix in just the right amount of detail so my students have the opportunity to learn, but don’t get bored. Each class is different so if there is something specific you would like to work on, just let me know.
Outside the yoga studio, I enjoy running, knitting, spending time with family and friends and performing Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
With a background in competitive gymnastics and dance, I learned at an early age what it takes to stay in shape and the right way to live healthy. I have carried this knowledge with me through college, and it has now evolved into a passion of mine, becoming something that I truly love, rather than a chore. I began yoga in college at MSU as an alternative to the monotonous days spent in the gym. It was something I found that reminded me so much of the sports (yes, gymnastics and dance ARE sports!:)) that I love so much. I realized yoga was something that I could truly enjoy doing, while at the same time, reaping so many wonderful benefits. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon hot yoga here in Springfield in 2009, that I really fell in love with the practice. After trying my first hot yoga class, I was addicted. I learned of the many wonderful benefits hot yoga has for the body, mind and soul. Hot yoga is the only thing I can do, that distracts me from all of the noise within me, and within my environment. During and after each practice I truly feel relieved of tension, rejuvenated, energetic and at peace, all at the same time. I am constantly excited to share my experience and knowledge with whomever will listen, and I feel as though I have found my place in the fitness world. I am so thankful for hot yoga and everything it has done, and will continue to do for my mind, body and soul.
Yoga is my life to say the least! I do not know where I would be had I not been introduced to this amazing practice and lifestyle. Everything I do is centered on the principles and teachings of the yogic tradition, and it is such a beautiful way to lead a life. I came to the practice suffering with anxiety issues and quickly realized yoga is how I was to heal. After studying, practicing and dabbling in teaching for some time I decided to partake in yoga teacher training with the amazing Beth Spindler, who continues to be my guide and inspiration. Through this training I found my calling! I teach yoga as a way to heal mind, body, and spirit. A way to learn who you truly are and to live to your full potential. I am passionate about helping students learn to use their bodies, breath, and energy to better themselves in all faucets of life. What we do and learn on the mat is directly linked to our daily lives. My aim is for you to have an experience during class, not just move your body and work up a sweat. It is an honor to assist you all in your personal journeys as I continue to explore my own. Namaste!
I discovered yoga at a time in my life where direction was lacking, at best. Like so many of us, I had become so consumed with the daily grind that I had truly lost focus of myself and my life. I found myself having doubts about my choices and the path I found myself on.
When I found Yoga, all of that changed for me. Yoga allowed me to finally understand and accept who I was. It gave me the fortitude to begin a path of self discovery and realization.
After a few years of practice, I decided to embark on a 200 RYT Program in the hopes of deepening my understanding of this life altering thing I had discovered. I have since continued my yoga education with a 300 Hour RYT, an Ashtanga Certificate, and a Level 1 Yin certificate.
As a six year practitioner, and three year teacher of yoga, I have established a very personal style of teaching. My love for Ashtanga and Yin, give me an eclectic mix of strong vinyasa, accompanied by mild moments of zen. Come and join me. I will happily hold space for you.
